PTR Radio started out as a 1 hour show on Monday nights on NHB Radio. Originally the show had more hosts than listeners (9 to be exact). In fact the first iteration of the show actually changed locations every week. We would pack up the studio and move from Nate’s, to Nick ‘s to Shaggy’s (basically round-robin to everyone with broadband access). Here’s a list of everyone that start with the show.
- Shaggy
- Nate
- Colin
- Porno Nick
- Janet
- Mike
- Carrie
- Robin
- Jamie
After the first few episodes several co-hosts started to trail off. Occasionally they would make random appearances, but after about the first 3 months of the show it settled down to Shaggy, Nate, Colin and Nick and it even was extended to a 2-hour show thanks to some opening in the NHB schedule. After the first year even Nick trailed off leaving the 3 hosts that most NHB listeners now associate with the PTR name (Shaggy the geek, Nate Dawg, and Colin the quite one [AKA midget lover]). The main topics of the show revolved around technology and the lives of the three hosts. A typical show ran the gambit of everything you could think of music, movies, nerd stories, gripes about work and even sometimes made up stuff about the other co-hosts of the show.
Some examples of fun times include
- Listener contributed mad-libs
- Name that TV show (ala name that TV theme)
- Why isn’t Colin here (AKA What’s more important than the show?)
- Can Nate solder and do a show?
- Why do we call them mac-n-trash computers?
Just to name a few…
Over the years we even contributed some quite spectacular bits to the NHB station. Some of the more memorable things coming from the PTR studios you might remember are:
- Pinkies Pleasure Palace commercials
- Host-Spotlights (taking it to a new level)
- NHB 12 days of Christmas
Unfortunately however, things came to a close back in mid 2005 for PTR due to scheduling conflicts between the hosts, conflicts with the other network shows and life in general becoming s ore complex and demanding more time. The members however are still as close as they ever were; they just haven’t had time to broadcast. Shaggy still occasionally pops up from time to time on a NHB show via call in and still is in contact with some of the NHB staff (from their time period).
Stay tuned to this site though for more information about the crew, the show and any updates onwhere/when you might see anyone from the PTR era popping their heads about on the internet.
